SANDAKAN: It was a dream come true moment for Jumah Abdul Hamid when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak visited her home during the "Jom Bantu Rakyat" programme at Kampung Sim-Sim here today.
Jumah, 57, who is a diabetic and could not walk, as well as has high blood pressure, was grateful that her house was one of two selected in the village for Najib to visit.
"Alhamdulillah. All this while I have been seeing the prime minister only on the television screen, but today I am able to see him in person. Thanks to the Social Welfare Department (SWD) for making this to happen," she said.
Her happiness was also shared by her husband, Awang Damit Bakar, 64, who described Najib as a people-oriented leader who took time to meet with the people.
A fisherman, Awang Damit said he was grateful for the assistance provided to the family, like a wheelchair and special bed for Jumah, and also for repairing the bathroom in the house.
Apart from Jumah's house, the prime minister also went to the home of Banrun Mohamad, 82, a former stroke patient.
Banrun's daughter, Shamsiah Noraji said the family was touched by the prime minister's willingness to come to their house.
"It is a historic moment for us to receive the prime minister," said Shamsiah, whose mother is recovering from a stroke.
The family also received a wheelchair, special bed and repair works on the house's bathroom through the programme.
Also present at the event were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, his deputy Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah and Sandakan Umno leader Tan Sri Ampung Puyon. — Bernama
