PADANG BESAR: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has developed an integrated flood alert system which will be installed at 108 mosques and places of worship in Perlis to enable faster dissemination of flood information via mobile phone.
UniMAP Foundation chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin said the alert technology was more practical as it was integrated via android application which could be downloaded from Google Play Store on mobile phones.
"UniMAP has developed the technology which will be centralised at mosques and places of worship as strategic locations to detect and manage the natural disaster information to reach the affected areas faster.
"Even though the function of flood detection is conducted by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) in every state, the UniMap idea will be practised and commercialised for faster dissemination of flood information to help save lives and property," he said.
Kamarudin was speaking to reporters after the launch of 'Mosques as the Focal Point for Disaster Management and Convergence Technology (MFordCT)' by Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail at Uniciti Alam Campus here today. — Bernama
