Dengue cases down by almost half

SUNGAI PETANI: Dengue cases are on a downtrend now, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said that on average, 1,700 to 1,800 cases were recorded weekly this year as compared with 3,300 to 3,400 cases weekly last year.
However, he said the numbers were likely to rise from August due to weather changes and dengue virus Serotype Shift, which causes dengue fever.
"As such, all quarters including the local authorities and the public need to join forces in combating the dengue scourge,” he told reporters after performing the ground-breaking ceremony for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Taman Keladi, here today.
Meanwhile, Dr Subramaniam said SJKT Taman Keladi, the 528th Tamil school to be built in the country, who be of great help for children from the Indian community to get primary school education.
On Jan 22, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had announced that six more SJKTs would be built namely SJKT Taman Sentosa, Klang, Selangor; SJKT Bandar Mahkota, Cheras, Selangor; SJKT Bandar Seri Alam, Masai, Johor; SJKT Taman Keladi, Sungai Petani, Kedah; SJKT Heawood, Sungai Siput, Perak and SJKT Taman PJS1, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. — Bernama
