Saratok boat capsize victim found

KABONG: The victim of a boat capsize incident at the river mouth of Sungai Kerian last Saturday has been found drowned this morning.
Saratok Fire and Rescue station head, Kho Boo Jang said the victim, Abang Madehan Abang Awi, 43, was found floating about 1km from the location of the incident at 8.34am by villagers who had been assisting in the search and rescue operation since the first day of the tragedy.
He said upon receiving the information, a team of rescuers from the station sped to the spot in a boat.
"The victim was taken to the jetty and handed over to police for further action," he said.
In the incident last Saturday afternoon, a boat which was carrying the victim with 10 villagers and 200 boxes of drinking water from the Welfare Department overturned after being hit by powerful waves.
Ten of the passengers were rescued in the incident.
The boat was on its way from Kabong to Kampung Paloh which had run out of clean drinking water due to a drought. — Bernama
