KOTA ISKANDAR: Wong Shu Qi (DAP-Senai) today demanded the state government explain allegations that a piece of gazetted forest reserve in Tanjung Kupang was awarded to a foreign property developer recently.

She said this during her debate on the opening speech by the Sultan of Johor at the State Assembly here.

She said she had documents to show that the 809.37ha of land, which was gazettes forest reserve had been awarded to a foreign developer, and now had been converted to industrial land status.

She said the government should not sell reserve forest land and stressed that wetland is important for the eco-system in the state.

She said the same foreign developer had also bought a 168.75ha plot in the same area earlier.

She said the local authority then changed the land status (from agricultural land to industrial land) after nine months of the transaction.
