SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has denied recent claims by the opposition of an assessment rate hike in Seremban.
State Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias (pix) said what happened in fact, was a revision of the assessment on residential premises by the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) in areas with properties more than 34 years old, particularly those which had renovations done.
The last time assessment for the area was revised was in 1983, he said.
"The council has carried out work to update all information on assets, mainly for properties which seen building renovations, which have not been updated since 1983.
"The current assessment imposed on them is based on valuations in 1983, and it should be noted, that older housing areas, most of them have homes and premises which have been modified almost entirely," he told a press conference here today.
He was responding to allegations by the opposition that there would be an assessment rate hike in Seremban, this July. — Bernama
