(Video) 7-day remand for foreigner who held woman hostage

TAWAU: A foreigner who took a woman hostage at knifepoint along Jalan Damai here on Wednesday has been remanded for seven days.
Sabah police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said the suspect who is a foreigner in his late 20s was remanded for seven days starting today.
"In the 9.20pm incident, the suspect had tried to break into a house at Taman Istimewa located behind the Luyang police station.
"However, the owner of the house saw him and alerted the police right away. The man then ran to another house, and took the woman hostage.
"The victim was outside her house when she was taken at knifepoint. Armed with a knife, the man locked one arm around the woman's neck as he took her to the busy street," he told a press conference after attending the closing ceremony of the Malaysian Press Institute course for Trafficking in Person here today.
He said the man is being being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and Section 307 if the same Code for attempting murder.
Videos of the incident has become viral.
One of the videos that had gone viral showed the man walking with her on a main road while negotiations were taking place. Another video showed that the man had gone with her into what looked like a petrol station nearby.
The woman is in stable condition and suffered no external injuries. She has since been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
