IGP: Three Turkish nationals have been deported

KUALA LUMPUR: The three Turkish men held by police for being a threat to national security have been deported to Turkey.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that Turgay Karaman, Ihsan Aslan and Ismet Ozcelik were deported to Ankara on Thursday night.
"Malaysian police confirmed that the Turkish nationals were deported back to Ankara last night," he tweeted via his @KBAB51 handle today.
On May 4, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the first two Turkish citizens who were arrested by police on May 2 were alleged to have been involved in activities and correspondence related to Daesh (Islamic State) terrorist group.
He also confirmed that the duo, international school head Karaman and businessman Aslan are being investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister added that the arrests were made not due to accusations but from findings obtained through the Counter Messaging Centre when investigating them.
The third Turkish national, Ozcelik, was arrested on May 4 for allegedly being a threat to national security.
The arrest was made at a petrol station in Chenor, Pahang.
Meanwhile, Khalid in a statement later said the trio were listed as wanted men by the Turkish authorities for their involvement with the group Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (Feto).
Khalid said police, in cooperation with the Immigration Department, had been involved in the operation to deport the trio to their home country.
Turgay was the principal of an international school in Ipoh, Perak while Ismet is also an academic. Ihsan is a businessman.
