Ministry seizes 66,000kg of subsidised cooking oil in raid

SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) seized 66,000kg of subsidised cooking oil to be exported in a raid at a licensed store in Jalan Labuk Lama here, yesterday.
KPDNKK Putrajaya Inspectorate and Special Tasks Unit principal assistant director Abdul Halim Pakri, who led the operation at about 9.30pm, said the premises was that of a syndicate involved in packaging and exporting subsidised fuel to neighbouring countries.
"An intelligence-based surveillance for over two weeks found a tanker that belonged to a licensed subsidised cooking oil packer often went in and out of the premises delivering supplies.
"During the raid, a machine for packing along with its hardware and some cooking oil which were already packed and ready for export were found," he said at a press conference here today.
According to him, the subsidised cooking oil seized were 3,313 barrels with each containing 20 litres and 5,899 packets each weighing 1kg with an overall total weight of 66,000kg. The confiscated cooking oil was worth RM240,000 whereas the subsidy was worth RM100,000.
He said the ministry viewed seriously any misuse of subsidised cooking oil and will continue to track and cripple the syndicates involved through ‘Ops Goreng II’ being carried out nationwide. — Bernama
