LABUAN: Civil servants who are on contract basis for 15 years and above are eligible to be absorbed as permanent staff after Dec 31, this year.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said the eligibility for absorption was in accordance to the public service scheme.
"The government made a decision last year on civil servants who were still on contract basis to continue their service until Dec 31, 2017, and those who have been in service for 15 years, we can absorb them as permanent officers," he said after making an official visit to the Labuan Customs Department and Marine Department here today.
He added that towards the year end, there might be requests from government departments and agencies on the staffing issue, particularly on staff whose contract ended on Dec 31 this year, and that would be decided by the government.
Ali said the number of civil servants on contract basis was still small and under control, noting there was no increase as of now, in that the 1.6 million (civil servants) still remained since five years ago.
He said he had not received any application from government departments and agencies in the duty-free-island here for new recruitment of staff.
"With the current staffing, the Labuan Customs Officers have informed me they can still discharge their duties and carry out enforcement ... and I was told all posts have been filled.
"I feel a little of weird when coming over here, there is no request from government department and agencies...all have shown excellence in their jobs ... therefore, I congratulate the civil servants here," he said. — Bernama
