Letters - MACC convictions count

14 May 2017 / 21:31 H.

"Anti-corruption wave picks up speed" (Off the Cuff, May 12) refers.

Azman Ujang is right in saying the anti-corruption wave triggered by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad, will change attitudes.

He is spot on asking that religious sermons talk about it to change attitudes.
It is also pertinent to ask the chief commissioner to explain how he has managed a slew of arrests in so short a time as we all know corruption investigations are painstakingly long?
Were his predecessors slack and sloppy?
And I do hope Dzulkifli realises his and the MACC's effectiveness will depend on convictions he gets especially as the agency's record in that area is poor.
Also, being from the Attorney-General's office, Dzulkifli must be able to stop the AG's office returning files "for more investigation" so that justice is not delayed.
Only then will the country perhaps overlook the ... elephant in the MACC's room.
