Mother, boyfriend detained over 'bruised' toddler's death

KAJANG: Police have arrested a woman and her boyfriend in connection with the murder of her two-year-old son.
Kajang district police chief ACP Othman Nanyan said, in the incident that happened on Saturday, the woman had noticed that her son was having breathing difficulties while he was sleeping at around 6.55am.
"She later rushed him to the hospital in Kajang where he was taken to the emergency ward," he said.
However, the boy died.
"Doctors had noticed swelling and bruising in the boy's head with red marks on the body," added Othman.
A post-mortem revealed that the boy suffered bodily injuries, including bruises, a broken rib and a ruptured pancreas which caused internal bleeding.
It was later confirmed that the boy had died of abdominal injuries due to blunt force trauma.
The woman and her 39-year-old boyfriend were arrested after the post-mortem.
"Her record is clean, but the boyfriend who is a restaurant worker tested positive for marijuana," he said.
The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
