Six Labuan anglers rescued from drifting boat

LABUAN: Six local anglers were rescued at sea by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Labuan after their fishing boat's engine exploded and the boat drifted about six nautical miles southeast off Daat Island Sunday morning.
The anglers who remained on the boat were picked up at 8.50am after they raised the alert to the agency that they had failed to fix the engine.
MMEA Labuan chief, maritime captain Che Adnan Md Isa said the agency's operation centre received an emergency report via MERS 999 at 7.20am to rescue the crew members and arrived at the position within minutes.
He said the anglers were Mohd Faizal Jani, 50, Abd Kadir Kula, 59, Khalid Johari, 52 , Haidi Entoh, 43, Talib Arameh, 39 and Jasni Abai, 49.
The MMEA brought the crew members and the towed the boat back to the MMEA jetty around 9am. — Bernama
