KUALA LUMPUR: Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders have been urged to take legal action against any party who spread lies about them in the social media.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Ahmad Maslan (pix) said besides giving a clear warning to the public to be more responsible, it can create a more harmonious and ethical atmosphere in cyberspace.
"Teasing is normal in politics. However, if they slander, I hope that Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders will sue them. I will surely sue if slandered," he told reporters after opening a seminar on Social Media Ethics (E-Mas) organised by the Umno IT Bureau at Menara Dato 'Onn, here today.
Meanwhile, Ahmad, who is also Umno IT Bureau chief said Umno cyber troopers in 191 divisions should always hold the principle of 'fighting with facts, not with slander'.
He said every allegation levelled at Umno and BN by the opposition in the social media should be replied as soon as possible complete with the facts. — Bernama
