Malaysiakini CEO charged for airing offensive video

KUALA LUMPUR: Premesh Chandran (pix), Malaysiakini's chief executive officer, was today charged at the Cyber Court for two offences under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Premesh, a non-executive director of KiniTV Sdn Bhd, was charged for allegedly airing an offensive video titled: "Khairuddin: Apandi Ali not fit to be the AG, he should quit immediately" in English and Malay.
He claimed trial to the charges which were allegedly committed at 1.14pm and 1.34pm on July 27, 2016.
KiniTV is a subsidiary of Malaysiakini.
Judge Zaman Mohd Noor granted RM2,000 bail for each charge and fixed June 15, 2017 for case management and Sept 5 to 7, 2017 for trial.
The news portal's editor-in-chief Steven Gan was also similarly charged in November last year.
