KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) will deploy shuttle buses during morning and evening peak hours to complement the KL Monorail Service starting tomorrow.
Its chief executive director, Datuk Zohari Sulaiman said the shuttle buses would be deployed at intervals of between seven and 15 minutes at several busy stations between 7am and 9am, and between 5pm and 7pm.
He said the shuttle bus service would be available between KL Sentral Monorail Station in front NU Sentral and the Raja Chulan Monorail Station.
"The shuttle bus is also available between Chow Kit Monorail and Bukit Bintang in front of Sungei Wang Plaza, and between Hang Tuah Monorail Station and Raja Chulan Monorail Station," he said in a statement today.
He said a nominal fare of RM1 would be charged, except at the Hang Tuah integrated station for customers travelling from the Sri Petaling/Ampang Lines. The fare for these customers would be waived.
"In addition to the shuttle bus services, commuters could also opt for the Go KL free bus services, particularly the Go KL Blue Line, between Chow Kit and Bukit Bintang, and the Go KL Green Line between KLCC and Bukit Nanas.
"We would monitor our customers' travel patterns and needs and will reorganise the shuttle bus routes, as needed," he said.
He said the shuttle buses are introduced as additional travel options as the KL Monorail Line was operating with only 2-car trains at eight minutes interval until further notice, following the grounding of the 4-car trains last Friday.
"We have identified several safety-related concerns on the 4-car trains and have demanded Scomi, the train manufacturer, to carry out all safety-critical improvement works and re-certify the rail worthiness of the 4-car trains.
"This is to ensure the trains are fit for operations and public safety is not compromised," he said.
In the meantime, Zohari said more manpower, including auxiliary police and station operations staff, would be deployed at the monorail stations for better crowd control and to assist customers.
He said station announcements would be made regularly to update customers on the service status.
"Regular customers can also follow or directly message us on Facebook @myrapid and Twitter @AskRapidKL or @MyRapidKL for updates on the service status," he said. — Bernama
