Suspect in Puchong robbery and rape case nabbed (Updated)

SERDANG: One of the suspects involved in the alleged rape of a woman during a robbery at an illegal gambling den in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong here has been arrested.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the 26-year-old was arrested at his home in Kuala Selangor on Sunday.
"He was arrested at around 5.30pm. We are tracking down the other man believed to be involved," he told a press conference at the Serdang police headquarters here today.
The man had tested positive for methamphetamine and has two prior drug-related records.
He has been remanded for a week until May 20 to facilitate investigations.
Megat said investigations have hit a snag as the victim who was allegedly raped has not come forward and police haven't been able to locate her as yet.
"The victim disappeared after the incident, there are no reports lodged by her. Efforts are being made to trace the victim and the Bangladeshi national who was also at the premise at the time of the robbery," he said.
In the incident about 11am last Thursday, closed-circuit television video (CCTV) footage showed two men robbing the illegal gambling den and then both took turns to sexually assault the cashier in the hidden corner of the outlet.
Footage of them taking turns forcing themselves on the victim went viral along with photos of the alleged suspects.
The four-minute video prompted netizens to call on authorities to punish the suspects for their crime.
The owner of the den lodged a police report on the incident three days later.
"The owner did not know that this had happened as the workers had run away. Only when he saw the footage going viral on social media two days later ... that is when he acted," said Megat.
Megat said the illegal gambling den had been in operation for less than a month in the area and police were unaware of its presence.
Checks by theSun revealed that the gambling den has since been shut down.
Megat said the case will be investigated under section 376 and 395 of the penal code for rape and robbery.
