Malaysian cyclists reach Thorong La Pass

KATHMANDU: Ten Malaysian cyclists who took part in the Annapurna Circuit High Altitude Cycling Expedition 2017 successfully scaled a height of 5,416m at Thorong La Pass at the Himalayan Range, Nepal, on Monday.
The moment of glory was achieved at 11.30am Nepal time and qualified those participants to be acknowledged by the Malaysia Book of Records for the "First Group to Cycle at High Altitude Track".
The expedition team went through 11 days of challenges to arrive at the world's highest mountain pass.
Sharing the experience, Bernama News Channel journalist Nazahiyah Mohd Hadzir, 32, said the team faced unpredictable weather conditions that caused some of them to experience early symptoms of acute mountain sickness at an altitude of 3,500m.
"However, it did not deter our team spirit to head for the Annapurna Circuit peak at Thorong La Pass," Nazahiyah said.
The Kedah-born cyclist, who had started the expedition since May 4 along with nine other participants, said the route taken by the team was very challenging mentally and physically.
