Miss Chinese World pageant back after five-year hiatus

PETALING JAYA: The Miss Chinese World pageant is back after a five year hiatus and this year it will take more than a pretty face to win the title.
Unlike previous editions, this year's pageant requires the ethnic Chinese beauties to display a strong sense of understanding of what it means to be a Chinese, something that is in line with the pageant’s theme ‘Heritage of the Orient’.
“Being in the pageant industry for as long as I have, I realise more and more that the younger generation are shunning their roots to quickly embrace the latest trends and identities of other cultures.
“Therefore, for this year's pageant, we have instilled some elements of the beautiful Chinese culture, values and age-old traditions so that one does not lose their identity nor forget their roots,” said pageant joint organiser Tan Sri Danny Ooi.
For this year's pageant, 31 participants hailing from 10 countries, including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Taiwan, and Malaysia, will vie for the specially designed crown and the ‘Miss Chinese World 2017’ title during the pageant finale on May 26 at One World Hotel.
Prior to the finale, the participants will be engaged in many promotional programmes including official visits around the country to promote tourism, engage in activities like making dumplings, Chinese calligraphy and a tea appreciation session. They will also be promoting Mother’s Day and raising funds for an old folks’ home.
The Miss Chinese World pageant is jointly organised by Miss Chinese World Sdn Bhd and Legacy Film Sdn Bhd.
