Two policemen injured in patrol car collision with stolen vehicle

SANDAKAN: Two policemen were injured when the patrol car they were travelling in, collided with a stolen vehicle in which were two wanted car-jackers during a chase in Jalan Pelabuhan Sandakan here yesterday.
Sergeant Fadil Abu Bakar, 53, who sustained head injuries and Lance Corporal Ismail Samsudin, 29, who suffered a concussion were treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital here before they were discharged.
One of the suspected car-jackers who was seriously injured in the collision was warded at the hospital. The 31-year-old man tested positive for drugs and has previous criminal records.
His 19-year-old accomplice sustained minor injuries.
Sandakan police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the two suspects were investigated for attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
He said in the 9.30am crash, a police patrol car stumbled on the stolen Proton Aeroback at Bandar Ramai-Ramai and trailed the vehicle.
"Upon seeing the patrol car, the two men in the car sped away, only to ram into another patrol car which was also in the midst of tracking down the stolen vehicle.
"The Proton Aeroback was reported missing on Sunday in Jalan Cecily here," he told a media conference here today. — Bernama
