KUCHING: The Kuching International Airport should be renamed, Kuching Adenan Satem International Airport, the State Assembly was told.
In proposing this, government backbencher, Datuk Idris Buang who is Muara Tuang state assemblyman, said this was in appreciation of the late chief minister''s enormous contribution to the state and its people.
Joining in the debate on the Yang di-Pertua Negri''s address at the 18th State Assembly sitting here, he said by doing so, "it means we are a people who value good exemplary leaders with universal attributes like what Tok Nan (Adenan Satem as he was popularly known) had."
''We must tell the people of the world that we salute and honour great leaders who served his country in a most exemplary manner with love, compassion, dedication and good government with tenacity and humility," he said.
He added the late Tok Nan had shown the people how to live with mutual tolerance and respect in a country with many different cultural and religious beliefs in order to live harmoniously.
"Suffice to say, I join my honourable brothers and sisters in this house in deep appreciation of his service to the state.
''If democracy, integrity and fairness can be personified, I dare say Tok Nan was that icon of honour," he said of the fifth chief minister who died at 72, on Jan 11 this year of heart complication at the Sarawak General Hospital''s Heart Centre.
