PETALING JAYA: Award-winning Kota Permai Golf & Country Club notched another feather in the cap when it was voted the Best Maintained Golf Course at the the 2017 Malaysian Golf Awards.
Joining the honour list are Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club (Most Improved Golf Course), The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course (Best New Golf Course), and Templer Park Country Club (Best Overall Golf Experience).
Templer Park also received the 'Outstanding Contribution to Golf' award along with the AmBank Group.
Apart from the golf courses, top golfers and other industry players were also recognised in annual awards extravaganza on May 12. Organised by ParGolf in collaboration with the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA), the Malaysian Golf Awards is the nation's only industry-wide awards recognising deserving individuals, golf clubs and companies for their achievements and contributions in the previous year.
The awards spanned 14 categories and the winners were selected based on voting by a 50-strong panel comprising MGA committee members, ParGolf editorial personnel and selected golf industry personalities.

"The Malaysian Golf Awards recognises excellence in the golfing industry with the aim of raising the bar from year to year. All the winners and nominees deserve to be congratulated for leading the way and we hope they will spur others on to strive even harder to match or surpass them," said MGA president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.

ParGolf publisher Suzannah Gun Palmer noted that the awards serve as a benchmark for the golf industry. "By acknowledging achievements across all spheres of the game, the Malaysian Golf Awards provides a benchmark for the entire golf fraternity. We would like to express our gratitude to Jebsen & Jessen for their continued support and we hope to expand and improve on the awards in the coming years," she said.

The awards presentation ceremony had a solemn moment when a brief tribute was paid to one of the legends of Malaysian golf, P. Gunasegaran, who passed away in March at age 53.
Guna, as he was known, is best remembered for finishing as runner-up in the 1994 Malaysian Open after an epic eight-hole playoff. That performance still stands as the best finish by a Malaysian in the national Open.

The individual award winners were:
Gavin Kyle Green (Malaysian Professional Golfer of the Year – Male);
Kelly Tan (Malaysian Professional Golfer of the Year – Female);
Daeng Abdul Rahman (Malaysian Amateur Golfer of the Year – Male);
Nur Durriyah Damian (Malaysian Amateur Golfer of the Year – Female);
Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi and Adam Arif Madzri (joint winners, Malaysian Junior Golfer of the Year – Male);
Winnie Ng Yu Xuan and Natasha Andrea Oon (joint winners, Malaysian Junior Golfer of the Year – Female);
M. Sasidaran (Breakthrough Golfer of the Year – 2016 Port Dickson Closed Championship);
