Man claims trial for death of brother
BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man today claimed trial to a charge of committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder at the Magistrate Court here.
Lim Liang Haw, 48, pleaded not guilty after he was accused of causing the death of Lim Poh Haw, 59, knowing full well that his action may cause the death of the latter, who is his brother.
He was accused of committing the offence in front of his house at Sama Gagah, Permatang Pauh, at 7.30am on May 14.
The offence under the Penal Code carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or fine or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamaliza Md Zin prosecuted the case while Lim was defended by RSN Rayer.
Rayer urged the court to impose bail of between RM7,000 to RM8,000 adding that his client had lodged several police reports against the victim, for fear over his safety.
Kamaliza however asked the court to impose bail of RM20,000.
Magistrate Jamiliah Abd. Manap then set bail at RM10,000 with the condition the accused report himself to the nearest police station once a month.
She then fixed July 17 for mention pending submission of documents.
