IPOH: The Sultan Azlan Shah Power Station in Bersia (SJ Bersia), Gerik has completed the cleaning up of oil traces caused by leakage of its generator last Saturday.
Sungai Perak Power Station general manager (generation division), Mazlan Mohd Som said the damage to the generator had been fully repaired and thus far, there were no traces of oil downstream.
“Traces of thin oil film only occurred within three kilometres of SJ Bersia as a result of the leak.
“Although the traces have been cleaned up, monitoring is still being carried out by the station,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, the work to control and clean up the oil leak in accordance with the company’s Emergency Response Plan procedures, was executed as soon as it was detected.
“It involved the cessation of operations of the generator to enable the repair work to be carried out on the affected parts and measures taken to clean the traces of thin oil film in the river, using oil absorbent boom and oil dispersant,” he said.
Earlier, Mazlan said the incident was notified to the relevant agencies and there was no reason for anyone to create various negative claims, including that TNB tried to hide the problem from the knowledge of the local community.
Mazlan said TNB also proposed to change from using the hydraulic system to the oil-free system to avoid the recurrence of similar problems. — Bernama
