Online banking, ATMs operating as usual, says ABM

PETALING JAYA: The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) yesterday reassured the public that electronic messages citing disruption of online/internet banking and automated teller machine (ATM) services due to ransomware attacks circulating via social media are not true.
“Our member banks that offer online/internet banking and ATM services have confirmed their services are operating as usual,” the association said in a statement yesterday.
ABM said while some ATMs around the country may experience occasional downtime during this period, such unavailability of ATM services were merely due to normal maintenance issues, such as machine replenishment requirements or routine systems management.
“We would like to add that the commercial banking industry takes a very serious view when it comes to cybersecurity matters and has always been vigilant in managing risks relating to the same.
“Efforts are continuously made to ensure that the appropriate controls are in place according to best practices which involve robust check and balance mechanisms with timely transactions monitoring,” it added.
The public may contact ABMConnect hotline at 1-300- 88-9980, or write to eABMConnect via its website www.abm.org.my for any queries.
