BUTTERWORTH: The dormant Penang Front Party (PFP) has been revived with the appointment of businessman Datuk Patrick Ooi as the advisor and steering committee chairman.
Ooi said he joined the party after accepting the offer for the two posts and was now preparing the party to contest 25 state seats and three parliamentary seats in the 14th General Election.
He said the campaign slogan would be "Penang for Penang Lang" (Penang for the people of Penang) and that PFP was support neither Barisan Nasional (BN) nor Pakatan Harapan (PH).
"PFP will focus on the welfare of the people and practise fairness and bring dignity to society," he said in a press conference today.
The PFP came under fire last year after proposing a casino to be built in Penang but was criticised by all quarters for the suggestion.
When asked about the matter, Ooi said this was not part of the election manifesto adding that he would contest in "winnable" constituencies identified by the party.
The prominent businessman was in the limelight last December after he expressed his unhappiness over enforcement action taken by the Penang Island City Council against his cafes.
In another development, Penang Non-Party Service Team founder Tan Hiang Lye led 100 members of his party to join the Malaysian People's Party (PRM) on Wednesday evening.
The former Kedah Gerakan organising secretary said political reality was that people could not accept a non-partisan political party.
He said he established his party after leaving Gerakan in March last year but was still accused of being backed by Gerakan and BN during party activities.
"I bow to reality and therefore lead my team to join PRM," he told theSun when contacted.
