Lawyer in court over CBT involving RM300,000

KUALA LUMPUR: A lawyer pleaded not guilty in the Session’s Court here today to a charge of criminal breach of trust (CBT) of RM300,000 involving the purchase of a piece of land, last year.
Jei Kogulaasrie , 47, was charged with CBT amounting to RM300,000 which was paid by Amarjeet Singh Sathwan Singh, 51, for the purchase of Lot 17712, Mukim Setapak here, belonging to Maslor Maskom, 59.
The woman was charged with committing the offence at Jei Kogulaasrie & Partners at D-1-10, Putra Majestik Jalan Kasipillay , Off Jalan Ipoh, here, on June 10 until July 4, 2016.
Prosecution was conducted under Section 409 of the Penal Code which provided a maximum 20-year jail with caning and could also be fined if guilty.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamarul Aris Kamalluddin offered a bail of RM50,000 and the additional condition that her passport be surrendered to the court.
The accused, who was not represented, appealed for a lower bail saying she had to support her family and a brother suffering from kidney disease.
Judge Azman Ahmad allowed the accused to be bailed at RM40,000 in one surety and ordered her to surrender her passport to the court.
The court also fixed June 15 for remention of case. — Bernama
