Police bust hit-and-rob gang involved in 10 car hijacking cases

PETALING JAYA: Police busted a hit-and-rob gang responsible for at least 10 cases of car hijacking and robbery with the arrest of seven men and two women here on Wednesday.
Police got their breakthrough when five men were arrested in possession of two stolen vehicles and a rifle at Bandar Kinrara.
It is learnt that the suspects had waylaid and robbed an ex-army officer of a Toyota Camry a day earlier at a highway toll booth at Taman Seri Muda.
Apart from the car, the victim also lost a rifle he kept in the vehicle.
On Wednesday, police patrolmen spotted five suspects moving several stolen items including the rifle from the Camry to a Perodua MyVi at an undisclosed location in Bandar Kinrara Puchong.
All five suspects were arrested and led investigators to four other accomplices in Shah Alam and here.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said today that the suspects who are in their 20's and 30's were responsible for carjacking they pulled off by staging a road accident and also wayside robberies in the Klang Valley.
He said both the Camry and MyVi were reported stolen.
In a separate case in Ampang, two men who barged into a restaurant at the Ampang Water Front and robbed the cashier at parang-point were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said today that the suspects who are aged 33 and 36 were arrested in Ampang and Ulu Langat.
He said police also seized the clothing they were wearing during the robbery and several stolen items.
The suspects had on Sunday held up the restaurant cashier and escaped with a cash box containing RM500 before escaping.
