JOHOR BARU: A teenage boy died of leptospirosis at a hospital here last night, Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said today.
He said the 18-year-old boy, who hailed from Pekan Nenas, Pontian, and had completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) education, was in the intensive care unit of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for three days.
Ayub said in a statement that the boy was said to have gone to the Gunung Pulai waterfall last month, and had suffered from stomachache, cold and fever for three days and become weak.
The Johor Health Department was trying to trace the places the boy could have visited before he was admitted to hospital, he said.
Ayub advised people who had gone to waterfalls and natural recreational areas in April and this month to undergo a medical examination immediately at any hospital or health clinic. — Bernama
