Zahid: No excuses for corrupt police personnel

SHAH ALAM: There will be no excuses for enforcement officers who violate the law instead of upholding it, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix).
He said the Home Ministry or the police will not protect any of its officers found to be involved.
"If the leak internal information, abet and cooperate as well as get extraordinary income from the syndicates, we will hound them down," Ahmad Zahid told a press conference today.
Reiterating that the ministry under his leadership will not tolerate this, he stressed that the "clean up" operations within the enforcement agencies will be done at all times.
"That's the reason we have the elite forces getting straight to the target groups and ensuring that the information should not be leaked to those who abet the syndicates," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said he had met the Malacca chief of police to ensure that "no protection" is given to any of the officers nabbed recently for corruption.
"Although they are among those who are allegedly exploited, used or forced to be involved. There is no excuses," Ahmad Zahid said.
He stressed that the "cleaning up" operations will not be seasonal and there will be consistent follow-up and follow-through action.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission started a crack-down on corrupt police personnel last Tuesday following complaints by other policemen that they were pressured to collect money from operators of illegal gaming outlets and massage parlours in Malacca Tengah and Jasin.
The series of arrests for various offences including graft and drugs recently had civil society groups calling for a third party to oversee the force as they believed internal policing had failed.
