JOHOR BARU: Police have crippled a vehicle theft syndicate following the arrest of four suspects in Kampong Bakar Batu, near Taman Perling on Friday.
North Johor Baru police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said the group mainly targeted Malaysian-made cars.
Police discovered seven cars and five motorcycles, 3 Allen keys and also seized self-made tools used for car theft.
Mohd Taib said all the vehicles had fake license plates and most of the chassis numbers had been blurred. Police are in the process of identifying these vehicles and the mastermind of the group.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 50, were remanded for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for stealing motor vehicles, which carries a jail term from one year to seven years, or fine upon conviction.
