PKR women's chief resigns, hands over duties to deputy (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) women's chief Zuraida Kamaruddin will not be contesting for the wing's top post in the party's next election.
Zuraida, who is also the Ampang MP said she will leave it to her deputy Haniza Talha to take over her duties in the next term.
"The time has come for me to hand over the duty of championing the PKR women's struggle to my deputy, Haniza.
"I am confident that Haniza, as the next leader will bring a new breath of leadership," Zuraida said in her policy's speech when officiating the PKR National Women's Congress 2017 held at Dewan Sivik Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) here.
Haniza has been the Selangor state assemblywoman for Taman Medan since 2008.
Zuraida stressed that the decision was made to pave way for other women leaders to take on more responsibility in the party.
She also refuted that it has anything to do with the incident involving her special officer, Datuk Adam Rosly.
Zuraida is also the Ampang PKR chief, and Adam is the youth chief for the branch.
"I think Haniza is the best candidate to carry the wing's agenda forward and i think this is a good time to give way for the younger generation to take responsibility.
"And this of course has nothing to do (with Adam)," she said.
Adam was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions court with six charges, in relation to giving false evidence and using forged documents.
Last month, the Magistrate's court granted a five-day remand order for Adam as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) commences investigations into his "unusual wealth".
