PETALING JAYA: About 50 PKR Wanita delegates staged a protest against Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for his recent remarks made about the way women dress up.
The delegates demanded Tengku Adnan resign from his Umno and BN Secretary General position.
The Putrajaya MP had drawn the ire of women recently, after saying that women must dress shabbily in order to avoid sexual harassment.
"This is what we call a shabby Minister," PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin (pix) said when closing the wings Congress held at Dewan Sivik Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) here.
Earlier, Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah said the remarks made by Tengku Adnan show that men were still not respecting women or treating them as equals.
"Ku Nan's remark shows there are MPs who do not understand what is gender equality, or what respecting women means," she said, referring to Tengku Adnan's nickname.
Tengku Adnan was reported as advising women to "dress shabbily" to avoid harassment while speaking at a Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) dialogue session earlier this week.
Maria was at the PKR Women's Congress to receive the Anugerah Wanita Berdaya Harapan Negara (Women's Empowerment, Nation's Hope).
The award was introduced by PKR Women to acknowledge women who are brave in voicing out their opinion as well as being active in social activities.
Two other women who received the award were Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof and writer Mariam Mokhtar.
