Police launch two new portals for making, checking police reports

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched two new portals which allows city folk to make non-criminal related police reports online and another system to check on the status of police reports made nationwide.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh said the E-Reporting System and Online Checks System (SSO) are portals which will make it easier for those making police reports and want to know the status of their reports.
He said with the E-Reporting those who had lost their identity cards or passports could now lodge their reports online.
The websites for the two systems are - http://ereporting.rmp.gov.my and http://sso.rmp.gov.my
Amar Singh said the E-Reporting system which was initially a pilot project at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station, now have been extended to 24 stations in the city.
"The effort towards modern policing is in response to the country's agenda and its national transformation movement which aimed at enabling police as a leader in maintaining the peace and security of the nation.
"These projects would facilitate members of the public to lodge police report on non criminal cases such as the loss of important documents and cases of domestic helpers running away from the employees in the city," he said after launching the two systems at the General Operation Force headquarters here today.
"If we refer to the statistics of the total reports lodged in the city last year, about 365,024 reports were lodged. About 85% out of the report were not investigated because there were no elements of crime involved in it. For this year, about 168,274 police reports have been lodged as of now and 25 E-Reports have been lodged at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station.
"The new system is aimed at easing the burden of the public, as it will allow people to lodge such reports from their homes. Meanwhile, for the SSO, the public nationwide can check their report status anytime via online," added Amar.
E-reporting is only open for Malaysians aged 18 years and above.
On March 10, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar launched e-reporting pilot project as an initiative under its Modern Policing project.
He said the success of the project would serve as model and benchmark for the structure and system of the police stations that are deemed suitable.
