KUALA LUMPUR: Want to be a part of the upcoming 29th SEA Games or 9th Asean Para Games (KL2017) celebration in August? You can do so by participating in the 2017 SEA Games Run that will be held on the same day as the SEA Games Long Distance Marathon on Aug 19.

The run, according to Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, is the first of its kind to be held and participation is open to all Malaysians and foreigners.

"The SEA Games Run 2017 is divided into two categories of varying distance where the first category is a 15km run and it is open to individuals aged 18 and above whereas the second category is a 5km fun run that targets participation from families.

"Runners who complete the run will receive a special SEA Games Commemorative medal, certificate and T-shirt, goodie bag and a one-day personal accident insurance cover. Runners for the 15km run will also be provided with a bib number and time chip," Khairy said during the media launch for the run today.

He stressed that the run is not a competition per se as no prizes will be given to the top runners because what they like to achieve through this competition is for the public to join them on the field on the first day of the KL2017 and express their support towards the SEA Games Marathon.

Registration for the run is now open, and will end on June 30, or earlier if the target of 20,000 participants is achieved. Walk-in registrations can be done at the office of the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association (FTKLAA) or via post by attaching the completed registration form with proof of payment to the FTKLAA.

Interested individuals can also register for the run via www.kualalumpur2017.com.my. The SEA Games Run 2017 is organised by KL2017 Malaysian Organising Committee (Masoc) in collaboration with the Malaysia Olympic Council and Malaysia Athletics Federation.
