Bursa Malaysia opens higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened higher in line with regional peers, which took the cue from Wall Street's recovery on Friday, dealers said.
At 9.07am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 3.12 points higher at 1,771.40 from last Friday's close of 1,768.28.
The index opened 3.87 points higher at 1,772.15 at 9am.
Gainers thumped losers 320 to 84 while 238 counters remained unchanged with 1,107 untraded and 20 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 313.29 million shares worth RM131.73 million.
Hong Leong Investment Bank said while market sentiment had stabilised after a rebound last week, traders were likely to deploy sell-into-strength strategy as the FBM KLCI's upside was likely to be capped around the 1,780 level.
Among heavyweights, Public Bank added four sen to RM20.40, Sime Darby and Petronas Chemical improved one sen each to RM9.32 and RM7.34, respectively, Maybank shed three sen to RM9.32 while TNB was flat at RM13.78.
Of the actives, AirAsia X rose 2.5 sen to 53.5 sen, AirAsia X warrant gained two sen to 30 sen while Dagang Nexchange warrant and Frontken rose added one sen each to 34.5 sen and 29.5 sen, respectively.
The FBM Emas Index was 30.29 points higher at 12,716.17, the FBMT 100 Index increased 29.87 points to 12,337.04 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 40.82 points to 13,050.31.
The FBM 70 jumped 67.48 points to 15,381.44 and the FBM Ace garnered 51.54 points to 6,653.25.
Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was up 13.22 points at 8,079.22, the Industrial Index increased 12.21 points to 3,274.43 and the Finance Index added 22.30 points to 16,377.62.
Gold futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives was untraded in early trading.
As at 9.29 am, spot month May 2017, June 2017, July 2017 and August 2017 were pegged at RM174.15, RM174.25, RM174.65 and RM175.15 per gramme, respectively.
Turnover was nil while open interest amounted to 257 contracts.
At 9.30am, physical gold was six sen higher at RM168.04 per gramme. — Bernama
