GEORGE TOWN: The scheduled press conference by JJ Poor To Rich (JJPTR) Farlim branch representative at 4pm today has been cancelled due to the high profile nature of the case.
Journalists who arrived at the Thein Teik Business Centre for the highly anticipated press conference were left disappointed when they were informed about the cancellation.
When contacted, the representative who only wanted to be known as Lim said he had to cancel the event because of the unnecessary attention it would attract from the public.
"The press conference was actually for media only, but the news about it had spread to the public as well", he said.
He said the purpose of the press conference was to explain to the media about how the JJPTR scheme works and to provide more information on its founder, Johnson Lee.
He claimed certain media organisations has painted JJPTR and Johnsonn Lee in a negative manner and slammed it as unethical.
Last Friday, a task force from Bukit Aman's Anti-Money Laundering squad, CCID, Bank Negara, the Companies Commission of Malaysia, Inland Revenue Department, National Revenue Recovery Enforcement Team and Cyber Security raided eight JJPTR premises in Penang.
Among the locations targeted by the task force were offices and residential units.
During raids, 15 JJPTR employees and four investors aged between 23 and 40 had their statements recorded by police.
JJPTR came under the spotlight after it claimed losses of RM500 million after its trading account was hacked.
