Iftar@KL 2017 is expected to lure 100,000 visitors

PUTRAJAYA: Iftar@KL 2017, a breaking of fast programme to be held every Saturday and Sunday in Kuala Lumpur city centre throughout the month of Ramadan, is expected to lure approximately 100,000 local and foreign visitors, according to Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
Speaking at a press conference on the programme here today, she said Iftar@KL 2017 would be specifically held on June 3,4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 at around Jalan Raja and Dataran Merdeka.
She said two new activities would be introduced at the sixth edition of Iftar@KL this year, namely the Islamic tourism exhibition and the “Feed The Homeless” donation counter.
Mas Ermieyati said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor are expected to join the programme on June 4.
“In 2015, the programme attracted 72,650 visitors, while in 2016, the number had increased to 82,600. Of the total, 16,520 were visitors from ASEAN member countries and also from South Korea, China, Japan, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, United States and France.
"Last year, the programme had also received a good review from foreign bloggers, especially from Jordan, China, Japan and France, who wrote about the breaking of fast event in a harmonious society in Malaysia,” she said.
Among the regular activities lined up for Iftar@KL this year are distribution of bubur lambuk (savoury porridge), Quran recital, tithe payment, Ramadan talk, Ramadan concert and moreh. — Bernama
