SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is ready for the 14th General Elections despite issues in Selangor.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party's annual congress held in Selangor shows that all electoral machinery and grassroots leaders are up to the daunting task to conquer Putrajaya.
"Everything went well. The mood in the congress is in line with the party's preparation for the next general election.
"All the debaters were young and the space to debate and we managed to give the platform to them," Wan Azizah said during a press conference after her winding-up speech at the congress.
Deputy president and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the leadership issue in the state after PAS severed ties with PKR has not affected the latter's preparation for the election.
Azmin added the three PAS exco members will still be in the Selangor government.
"Our focus is the next general election, so stability is paramount.
"You've heard all the debaters use this forum to give their views to the top leadership on how we can strengthen not just PKR but political cooperation among opposition progressive parties.
"We must move on and move forward," Azmin said.
During her winding-up speech, Wan Azizah stressed PKR must continue the struggle of its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
She said PKR will champion the former Umno man to be the next prime minister should the opposition win the 14th General Election.
"September 2 (1998) was the day that Anwar was sacked from the Deputy Prime Minister's post.
"Since then, the reform agenda has started and we should carry on the torch of light and continue to champion this struggle," she said.
