Bursa Malaysia opens marginally lower

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened marginally lower amid the mixed opening in regional bourses, as concerns over the turmoil in the US administration continued, dealers said.
At 9.10am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.63 of-a-point lower at 1,774.32 from Monday's close of 1,774.95.
The index opened 0.63 of-a-point higher at 1,775.58 at 9am.
Gainers led losers 201 to 145 while 239 counters remained unchanged with 1,164 untraded and 21 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 195.89 million shares worth RM84.83 million.
TA Securities said blue chips were likely to trade sideways with rotational buying interest noted for stocks of selected construction companies deemed to be keen in the Bandar Malaysia project.
Among heavyweights, TNB added four sen to RM13.84, Sime Darby gained five sen to RM9.36 while Public Bank, Petronas Chemical and Maybank were flat at RM20.10, RM7.35 and RM9.35, respectively.
Of actives, Luster Industries, Asia Bioenergy warrant and Key alliance added half-a-sen each to 16 sen, 3.5 sen and 5.0 sen, respectively, and Globaltec was flat at 6.5 sen.
The FBM Emas Index was 5.07 points lower at 12,735.65, the FBMT 100 Index eased 4.61 points to 12,352.74 and the FBM 70 slipped 6.49 points to 15,383.70.
The FBM Emas Syariah Index added 0.87-of-a-point to 13,073.52 and the FBM Ace jumped 81.94 points to 6,681.01.
Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was up 17.06 points at 8,088.94, the Industrial Index decreased 10.47 points to 3,283.87 and the Finance Index slid 6.64 points to 16,374.95.
The physical price of gold as at 9.30am stood at RM168.78 per gramme, up 65 sen from RM168.13 at 5pm yesterday. — Bernama
