KUALA TERENGGANU: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has urged the government to consider giving a higher incentive to government servants for the Hari Raya celebration this year, says its president, Datuk Azih Muda.
"We know that if civil servants do not get the incentive, they may not even be able to consider getting new clothes for the Raya celebration on its eve. This (getting new clothes) is an important matter for civil servants ahead of Aidilfitri .
"I will meet with government officials in the near future to convey the wishes of the civil servants and hope that it (the incentive) is better than in previous years, that is no less than RM1,000, as previously the amount was RM500 and we know that it is now not enough," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after opening a workshop on Occupational Safety and Health for the Public Sector in Terengganu here today.
Meanwhile, Azih denied claims that Cuepacs had sought the retirement of civil servants be extended to 65 years.
"That's not true. We only asked for a pay rise. The statement was manipulated by irresponsible parties and spread on social media," he said. — Bernama
