IPOH: A group of 23 security guards employed in 11 schools in the Perak Tengah district have lodged a police report against their employer for not paying their salaries and overtime claims.
Group spokesman Abdul Nasir Abu Bakar said the company owed them RM138,645.
He said they were in the dark as the manager of the security firm who is a Datuk has gone missing.
"With the report we hope the Labour Department and the Education Ministry will look into our predicament," he told reporters after lodging a report today.
The company employed the guards since October 2012 to work in the schools in the district. They made the first police report in Seri Iskandar in 2014.
The employer had a contract with the Education Ministry from Oct 1, 2012 to September 9, 2015 but the Datuk went missing in March 2014.
"We brought up the issue with the Labour Department and subsequently the Industrial Court ordered the manager to settle the overdue payments.
"However to date there is no sign of any money," he added.
The company based in Kota Baru, Kelantan appointed a manager to recruit the guards in the Perak Tengah district.
Meanwhile Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) central committee member R. Mohana Rani who helped the guards to lodge the police report, said the performance bond placed with the ministry by the firm had also been claimed by the state Education department after the breach of contract.
"The money should be used to compensate the guards but nothing has been done," she added.
Mohana Rani also said the authorities should review the payment method and select competent security firms.
She suggested the Education Department be given the authority to pay the salaries directly into the accounts of the guards.
