Detainee dies in hospital while seeking treatment - Malacca police chief

Malacca: Police here denied a that man died while in the police lock-up at the Malacca Tengah district police headquarters (IPD) yesterday.
Malacca police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said on the contrary the man died while receiving treatment at the Malacca Hospital, after being taken there as he had complained of being ill to a policeman at the IPD.
"The information (died while in custody) is not true, he died at the Malacca Hospital when seeking treatment," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
However, he declined to comment in detail on the incident as it was still under investigation, including the cause of death of the individual.
A news portal today reported a Suaram statement claiming that an individual K.Partiban, 34, died while in police custody. — Bernama
