SHAH ALAM: The Home Ministry is determined to redouble its efforts to ensure that the crime rate index registers a better performance in the future although it has managed to reduce it by 47% from 2010 to 2016.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the good performance was the result of teamwork among enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry.
"We feel honoured because the crime rate has dropped by 47% despite the various challenges and perceptions that we face," he told reporters after witnessing the presentation of the National Transformation Programme Annual Report 2016 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abd Razak last night.
When presenting the report, the Prime Minister congratulated Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, as achievements under the NKRA (National Key Result Areas) in reducing crime until the end of 2016 were something to be proud of.
The Prime Minister was also pleased when the Global Peace Index 2016 report by the Institute for Economics and Peace stated that Malaysia was among 30 safest countries in the world.
Referring to the NTP report, Ahmad Zahid said the positive performance was evidence that the country had strong economic fundamentals.
He also said that if the positive sentiments among foreign and domestic investors could be further enhanced, the country's economy would certainly be able to achieve a much better performance.
"I am determined to continue to assist the prime minister in the effort to spur national development," said Ahmad Zahid who congratulated Najib for being able to carry out responsibilities so effectively that Malaysia had recorded remarkable achievements in 2016 in various fields, especially in economics. — Bernama
