A matter of time before MACC begin hauling up politicians: Dzulkifli

KUALA LUMPUR: It is just a matter of time before the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) begin hauling up politicians involved in graft.
Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said he, as the anti-graft body chief commissioner, knew better of when is the right time to take these politicians to task, and that it should never be questioned.
"My statement is clear, and that it's only a matter of time now. When I said I would take action, I mean it. So just wait and see, be patient.
"We will act one by one. It has been less than a year since I helmed MACC. I have about four years more. So be patient," he told reporters after a walkabout and the launching of the MACC 3J Campaign (Jangan Kautim, Jangan Settle, Jangan Hulur), at Berjaya Times Square, here, today.
Dzulkifli was responding to PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man's statement on Tuesday that MACC's decision to not take action until after the general election was silly and unfair, questioning if politicians were given special rights.
Dzulkifli, however, rubbished the claim, saying that if he had taken immediate action against corrupt politicians, only then could it be described as giving special rights.
"I said I will act. If I had said that no action would be taken, then his (Tuan Ibrahim) statement would be relevant," he said.
Meanwhile, Dzulkifli also urged the public not to be afraid to come out and report any incidents of corruption to the MACC, assuring they would be protected by the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010.
"We can promise those who provide us with information, that your identity as well as the information given will be protected by the act," he said.
On the possibility that foreign investors would shy away from Malaysia due to the high number of arrests involving corruption, Dzulkifli said that would not be case and was in fact the opposite.
"When we do our job to ensure that those who abuse their power and are involved in corruption are taken to task, I believe investors will be more confident in our country," he said.
He said he met with the top leaders of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) on Tuesday, and was even commended for the job MACC has been doing recently.
