PETALING JAYA: The government has spent over RM1.9 billion on Low-Income Households (LIH) National Key Result Areas (NKRA) based on the National Transformation Programme (NTP) Annual Report 2016.
The report also noted that 7,898 new individuals participated in the 1AZAM (Akhiri Zaman Miskin) programme.
In total, 10,225 new and existing participants have been recorded, who have also increased their income above RM300 (more than 90% of their previous individual income).
The 1AZAM focuses on areas that provide individuals with the most suitable assistance to their circumstances and capabilities to upgrade themselves.
"They are then either given access to gainful career opportunities, or a chance to prove their entrepreneurial skills," it added.
Additionally, RM66.71 million was allocated to all the agencies involved in the LIH NKRA last year, which focused on the continuation of the 1AZAM and Beyond 1AZAM programmes.
The NTP also reported that the government has spent over RM23.5 billion on various initiatives to help relieve the financial challenges faced by the rakyat, especially the Bottom 40 (B40) economic stratum.
Under the report's Cost of Living (COL), a total of RM5.36 billion was disbursed to 7.28 million households through BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia).
It also noted an increase of 6.1% in visits from 2015 to 2016 to the K1M (Klinik 1Malaysia) clinics.
Last year, 20 new K1M clinics out of the 33 targeted for the year have started operations.
