PUTRAJAYA: Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot said Cambodia will start to send its domestic workers to Malaysia after Hari Raya, following a six-year freeze.
The Cambodian government implemented the freeze in 2011 following reports of Cambodian maids being abused.
He added the Cambodian government has agreed to send its domestic workers to be trained for a minimum of one month, before coming to Malaysia.
Riot said the training syllabus includes chores, learning Malaysian culture and language.
"Cambodia will be sending foreign domestic workers to Malaysia as soon as possible.
"My officers together with the ministry of home affairs, were in Cambodia to finalise some things and hopefully the workers can come after Raya," he said during the launch of the Guidelines and Tips for Employers of Foreign Domestic Helpers at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here.
The guidelines were jointly launched by the Human Resources Ministry and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
Riot said the guidelines contains useful information regarding the laws and best practices related to recruitment and employment of foreign domestic workers.
"The publication of this guidebook marks an important milestone for the ministry and ILO for being able to produce a document such as this to assist employers of foreign domestic workers in addressing and handling the many situations and issues they may face upon engaging foreign domestic workers.
"The guideline also portrays Putrajaya's seriousness in ensuring the welfare, rights and protection of foreign domestic workers to be given top priority as they to play an important role in contributing to the development of our country," Riot said.
He added the guidelines is divided into three main segments that addresses the question relating to (i) procedures and processes of recruitment of foreign domestic helpers (ii) positive employment practices towards establishing a harmonious working relationship with their domestic workers and (iii)understanding issues related to communications, culture and training.
