Police run 'Ex Rimau' in preparation for SEA Games (Corrected)

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today ran the first of five crisis management drills, code-named "Ex Rimau" to prepare them for any eventualities during the upcoming 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in August.
The exercise was held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh said similar drills will be held again at the national stadium soon, followed by three more at the KLCC mosque, National Sailing Centre in Langkawi and International Endurance Park in Terengganu.
"The exercises would cover five situations including VIPs evacuation, bomb threats, partial building collapse, explosives that might contain Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) and armed militant attacks," he told reporters after witnessing the first exercise today.
Amar said he was satisfied with the exercise, adding that the force was prepared to face any eventualities.
He said among the objectives of the security drill was to test the ability of the crisis response team, the effectiveness in the execution of plans and also the police force's reaction time to possible threats.
"The exercise is also to train personnel on how to face possible crisis during an international sporting event," he added.
Amar further revealed that police would also install scanners at every entrance of the venues to screen participants as one of the preventive security measures.

» Very Able Troop Vat 69, 69 Commando
» Air Operations Team (PGU)
» General Operations Team (PGA)
» K9 unit
» Officers from Kuala Lumpur police contingent Criminal Investigations Department (CID)
"Four more such exercises will be held in the coming months leading up to the games. The future drills will feature other enforcement agencies namely, The Fire and Rescue department, Civil Defence Force," he said.
