COPENHAGEN: Denmark will extradite a woman linked to the South Korean corruption scandal that led to the impeachment and arrest of former president Park Geun Hye, local authorities said Wednesday.
Chung Yoo Ra, the daughter of Park's confidante Choi Soon Sil, cancelled her appeal against the extradition, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions wrote on Twitter, adding that a date had not been set.
On April 19, a district court in Aalborg, western Denmark ruled that the 20-year-old could be extradited.
Her Danish attorney, Michael Juul Eriksen, told the court that the woman did not want to remain indefinitely in Denmark but was anxious to remain in contact with her two-year-old son in the event of an extradition.
"It looks like a solution has been found," Eriksen told Danish news agency Ritzau.
"She is prepared to return home and has been in touch with lawyers and authorities in her home country," he said, adding "she doesn't feel it is viable to remain here.
She would rather return home than remain incarcerated here."
Chung's mother, Choi Soon Sil, was a close confidante of former president Park Geun Hye and was at the centre of the influence-peddling scandal that led to street protests demanding Park's removal.
Chung was arrested on South Korea's request in January in Aalborg, where she had been staying with her son.
Danish authorities approved her extradition in March.
Chung, a professional equestrian, initially challenged the extradition, insisting she is innocent and that she signed documents for her mother without being aware of their content. — dpa
