GEORGE TOWN: Zaidi Ahmad, the Information Officer to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was slapped by a senior citizen during a protest in front of a mosque at Jalan Macalister here.
In the 2.30pm incident, the group of about 50 protestors from Jaringan Muslimin Pulau Pinang held placards critical of the state government over alleged interference in issuing fatwas.
A ruckus ensued when the group leader Mohd Hafiz Noordin gave a speech alleging state interference in religious matters pertaining to fatwas.
Zaidi told theSun he was at the mosque for Friday prayers when he came across the protestors.
He said he was upset with the group and tried to reason with them.
However Zaidi said he ended up being attacked instead.

Zaidi added that he would not be taking the matter further with the man who attacked him, as he was a senior citizen.
